چکیده

OBJECTIVE : To evaluate and compare proprioception, body balance and knee functionality of individuals with or without unilateral anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. METHODS : Forty individuals were divided in two groups: Experimental group, 20 individuals with ACL reconstruction at six months postoperative, and control group, 20 individuals with no history of lower limb pathologies. In the experimental group, we assessed lower limbs with reconstructed ACL and contralateral limb; in the control group the dominant and the non-dominant lower limbs were assessed. All subjects were submitted to joint position sense test to evaluate proprioception, postural control measure in single-limb, and step up and down (SUD) test for functional assessment. RESULTS : There were no deficits in proprioception and postural control. In the SUD test, a 5% decrease in lift up force was found in reconstructed ACL lower limbs, however, a statistically not significant difference. The impact and step down force during the course of test were 30% greater in anatomic ACL than in control lower limbs. CONCLUSION : The individuals with ACL reconstruction at six months postoperative did not show changes in proprioception and postural control, but showed motor control changes, influencing knee functionality. Level of Evidence IV, Prognostic Studies.

Investigating Knee Joint Position Sense in a Male Soccer Player After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

Background: Anterior Cruciate Ligament) ACL (injury is the most prevalent knee ligament injury during exercise, with a frequency of 36.9 per 100000 individuals. The one characteristic of this injury is proprioception dysfunction. The current study investigated the knee proprioception in soccer players after ACL reconstruction. Methods: The study participants consisted of 20 elite male soccer p...

The Effects of Continuous Cognitive Task on Postural Control of People with Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Using Balance Error Scoring System

Objective: People with Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction need to have almost automatic postural control to focus on their athletic skills. Continuous cognitive task is a method for removing attention from postural control. The effects of continuous cognitive task on postural control of people with ACL reconstruction has been assessed by laboratory tools; however, its effect using ...

The Effects of Balance Training on Static and Dynamic Postural Stability Indices After Acute ACL Reconstruction

BACKGROUND Proprioception and postural stability play an important role in knee movements. However, there are controversies about the overall recovery time of proprioception following knee surgery and onset of balance and neuromuscular training after ACL reconstruction. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the effect of balance training in early stage of knee rehabilitation after anterior cru...

A comparative study of whole body vibration training and conventional training on knee proprioception and postural stability after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

OBJECTIVE To compare the effect of a whole body vibration training (WBVT) programme with a conventional training (CT) programme on knee proprioception and postural stability after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. METHODS Twenty athletes with unilateral ACL reconstruction were randomly assigned to the WBVT or CT group; all participants received 12 sessions of WBVT or convention...
